Today was an ordinary day an went to class. When I booked my train reservation to Rimini tomorrow to go visit the beach town of Rimini and city state of San Marino, I decided to save some money and will be coming back on the same day. As a result, I now have an extra day of travel on Eurail Italy Pass and I have no idea what to do with my extra day. I have a list of possible choices, but none of these options are compelling enough to convince me to a definitive choice. So I will leave it up to a vote and use my readers suggestions on what I should use my extra travel day for.

Here are the choices:

1) Hiking Cinque Terre- Go hike along the Italian Riviera and see the nice coastline.

Pros: Nicest hike in Europe. It’s a scenic coastal hike that I can see five authentic Italian villages.

Cons: Pay up to 15 euro entry fees for hikes. Also I was already in this area last weekend and saw the gist of the Cinque Terre on the train.

2) Go to Rome one day early

Pros: Spend more time in Rome. Rome has a lot to see and do, so expanding my trip there by a day will help me see the city and not feel rushed.

Cons: Pay an extra night at a hostel. Less time to study for midterms after my trip to Rome.

3) Visit the city of Genoa

Pros: Close to Milan and has a large historical center and cultural artifacts

Cons: Nothing much other than museums and a harbor.

4) Visit Lake Como

Pros: Supposed to a really nice lake Less than an hour on the train. I can go boating or mountain biking

Cons: My impressions are that it is a poor man’s version of Lake Lugano which I have already visited on a previous trip to Europe.

5) Visit Siena

Pros: Nice square. I like Tuscany and it would be enjoyable to see another historical Tuscan town. I know people who currently living there.

Cons: I have already been to Florence, Viareggio, Lucca, and Pisa so Siena may be a little redundant. It is also pretty far away.

6) Go to the Island of Elba

Pros: Off the beaten path. I can see the houses where Napoleon was exiled. Good seafood.

Cons: Farther away than any of the other day trip destinations. Also the ferry scheduling may create conflict with the train timetable

7) Other (Note that it has to be in Italy and close enough to be a day trip).

Feel free to cast your vote with a comment on the mag and preferably explain why. In ten days, I will count up the votes and decide my trip accordingly.
